Who They Are

2019 - MEETING JONATHAN

For weeks a tall, well dressed man stood in front of Starbucks holding a bible. He wore jeans and a sports coat. He was homeless, lived in the woods nearby, and preached the gospel of Jesus Christ - all day, every day.

It took several times passing by to build up the courage to stop, say a quick hello and nervously hand money out the window of the truck to Jonathan. While thankful, he didn't seem interested in the money. As days passed, more stops were made, and we spent time together talking.

2020 - WHO JONATHAN IS

Jonathan was kind, loved to talk, and started sharing stories about people that he knew that needed help. He never asked for much, but when he did he asked for socks, water, a cell phone to call his mother, and other things that many of us take for granted at times. He shared his story about how he became homeless, and we developed a friendship.

2021 - WHO THEY ARE

Today when Jonathan calls, chances are its about a new person that he's met and is eager to help out with a new tent or sleeping bag. Well, there's the occasional special request for a Burger King Double Whopper, a little lettuce and no onions, but hey... :-)

Knowing who Jonathan is and how he serves others really caused me to wrestle with my own life. How is it someone with so little possessions is consumed with helping so many people? Yet, I have so much and at times I'm consumed with obtaining even more.

Maybe its time for a change.

In September of 2021 our Small Group from Woodstock City Church decided to work on the WHO THEY ARE project during the Be Rich campaign. We're raising money to provide comfort to the homeless where they are for WHO THEY ARE. Our patrons help fund rugged gear to our brothers and sisters in need of comfort and dignity as they sleep under the stars.

Our Father is faithful,

Grant
